Consigning with Homeschool Refresh

What We Accept

We accept gently used, current edition homeschool curriculum, school supplies, children’s books (all ages), educational toys, and games. We accept some puzzles still sealed in the box or where we can easily determine that all the pieces are there (e.g., 50 pieces or less). Please no opened 1000 piece puzzles! What we accept may vary based on the season and what we have in stock at the time you consign. We reserve the right to reject any item at any time for any reason.

Good condition for all books means the spine is not broken and there are no missing pages, rips, stains, or water damage.

Good condition for consumable workbooks means no or minimal writing and no missing pages (minimal means less than 10% of pages are written in). If 25 out of 100 pages are written, if the writing is not erasable, or if problems are graded/corrected, it is unlikely to sell and will likely be steeply discounted.

Good condition for other items means no visible scratches on discs, and that math manipulatives, science kits, games, puzzles, & flashcards are 100% complete and not missing anything.

We do not accept most adult fiction and nonfiction; consumable workbooks with more than very minimal writing; most curriculum that is not the current edition, not in good condition, or contains out-of-date information; free materials printed from a website, or a printed PDF where we cannot confirm you have the right to resell; handmade flashcards, and non-educational toys and puzzles.

What You Get

You receive 40% of the final sale price for all your items in store credit. Your store credit never expires and can be used at any time. Payment in the form of a check may be possible, please contact us to inquire.

You may call or email us at any time to inquire about your consignor balance, or check online by entering your email at checkout in our online store.

Consign in Person

We accept consignment every day we are open, up to half an hour before we close. You do not need an appointment, but if you are bringing more than 100 items, we ask that you please call ahead to ensure we can accommodate you that day. We may periodically pause consignment collection during busy periods. Please check our social media or call for updates before coming in!

You must remain in the store while we process your consignment. We do not have space to accommodate consignors who drop off and pick up later. Rejected items left at close of business will be discarded without notice.

If your items don’t sell you have five business days after we contact you to pick them up before they are discarded. We reserve the right to discard, without notice, individual items we accept but later discover are not in saleable condition.

See our full consignor agreement here.

Can I send my consignment with a friend? Yes! Simply fill out the agreement and contact info form ahead of time here and have your friend bring it in with them. We must have a consignor agreement signed by you or your spouse in order to accept your consignment.

Consign by Mail

Thanks for considering consigning by mail with Homeschool Refresh! To ensure you have the best experience and get the most return for your consignment, please read the following instructions carefully.

Steps for Consigning by Mail

  1. Choose the items you want to consign
  2. Fill out the contact form and sign our consignor agreement online
  3. Ship your items
  4. Get paid!

We accept all current edition homeschooling curriculum and children’s books (fiction and non-fiction)in good condition. (See above “What We Accept” section for more details). Books in poor condition are unlikely to sell for a high enough price to merit shipping them to us. Picture books, early readers, and board books in particular need to be in absolutely like-new condition.

If you are uncertain whether your curriculum is current, we strongly recommend checking before mailing it in.

Check with us before mailing:

  • Curriculum designed primarily for public/private school, and not homeschool use (including college level textbooks)
  • DVDs
  • Audio CDs
  • Science Kits
  • Games
  • Puzzles
  • Educational Toys
  • Large Posters/Charts/Maps

Please do not mail:

  • Out-of-date materials (for example, world geography texts from before 2011, materials on the presidents that don’t list the current president)
  • Cassette tapes
  • CD-ROMs
  • Flashcards that retail for less than $5 or are handmade
  • Magazines
  • Free materials printed from a website, or a printed PDF where we cannot confirm you have the right to resell
  • School supplies (binders, notebooks, folders, reams of paper, pens, pencils, glue, etc.)
  • Art supplies
  • Non-educational toys
  • Clothing

Items we choose not to sell will not be returned to you. If you have any questions at all about what we accept, please don’t hesitate to contact us! Feel free to send us photos or videos of what you have before mailing. We are happy to help!

Fill out our contact information form and sign the consignor agreement prior to shipping. We won’t process your consignment until we have received your contact information and a signed agreement. Boxes received without both contact information (phone or email) and a signed agreement will be discarded or converted to store property without notice.

Shipping to us

USPS Media Mail is absolutely the least expensive method for shipping. We strongly recommend using it, if possible, but please note that the Post Office puts restrictions on what can be shipped media mail.

Only books, DVDs, CDs, flash drives (containing only educational material), educational charts, and flashcards can be shipped using media mail. You cannot ship other items such as math manipulatives, science kits, puzzles, games, video games, or educational toys with media mail. You can also not mail magazines or comic books media mail, even if educational.

For this reason, we recommend only shipping items such as math manipulatives and science kits if they have a high retail price and are in absolutely perfect condition. We recommend combining these types of items into one shipment, not placing one math manipulative in a heavy box of books and paying ground for the whole shipment.

Media mail packages can’t weigh more than 70 pounds or measure more than 108 inches in combined length and girth. (Save your back and put them in two different boxes if you have that many books!) Other types of shipping have other restrictions, check with your carrier.

We recommend using shipping boxes with at least a 32 ECT rating. (You should be able to see the rating printed on the box.) Heavier boxes should be more sturdy (e.g., 44 ECT).

Address to ship to:

Homeschool Refresh

24860 Pacific Hwy S

Suite 102

Kent, WA 98032

It is very important you put our correct address on the shipping label, as media mail does not forward and if undeliverable, you will be required to pay the media mail shipping cost again in order to get your items back! (USPS rule, not ours!)

Please send us the tracking information! This helps us to know what’s coming and we can act faster if something goes wrong with the shipment.
